Salivary gland cancer is an unusual type of cancer that begins in the tissue of one of the salivary glands. A salivary gland generates spit, which keeps the oral cavity wet and allows the body with digestive function. There are a number of salivary glands within the oral cavity and two main types, major and significant. There are three pairs of significant salivary glands, these are:

Parotid glands is the most common salivary glands to experience tumors, the parotid glands are present just at the front side of each ear.

Sublingual glands is the tiniest of the significant salivary glands, these are situated at the rear of the jaw.

Submadibular glands located at the rear of the jaw.

There are thousands of minor microscopic salivary glands all around the oral cavity. Tumors are not typical in these, but if they do occur, the possibilities are they will be cancer (malignant). Locations at which the minor salivary glands can be found include:

Sinuses

Tongue

Cheeks

Nose

Larynx

Symptoms:

The symptoms of salivary gland cancer are:

Difficult to open the mouth

Facial muscles feel weak

Difference in shape of one side of the neck

Swelling around jaw, mouth

How salivary gland cancer can be diagnosed?

Analysis of salivary gland cancer normally happens when one of the above signs is observed, resulting in the individual to visit their physician. In order to effectively identify the cancer, the physician will need to know the individual’s medical history and perform a physical exam. This will include evaluation of the sides of the face, the mouth area and the area around the jaw.

If the cancer spreads more widely, then the patient requires further tests such as imaging tests. These imaging tests can be very efficient at identifying the place and spreading of any cancer places, they can also help us in observing, whether a treatment is successfully decreasing the cancer area. The types of tests that can be used are:

CT scan

X-rays

PET scan

Living with soreness in joints is a traumatized experience for elders. Injection therapy treatment is not only alternative to traditional medications but safe too, and gives long lasting relief to the sufferers of joint pain. There are varied kinds of injection therapy treatment methods in existence both safe and can provide long lasting relief. Moreover, injection therapy offers a moderately invasive and non-surgical procedure that assuages relief from join pain. Further, it has the capability to revitalize health tissues.

A large number of injection treatment methods include daily injections of a useful substance at the site of pain. The following are some of the familiar types of injection therapy treatment methods:

Cotisone Injections, also referred to as corticosteroids, are a kind of injection therapy that is given to the patient who has developed inflammation in the joint parts and other tiny areas of the body. This treatment lessens inflammation through steroids, which enable the muscle and bursa at the area to function with less discomfort. This treatment provides quick relief that lasts for several months. Sporadically, there could be some side-effects, such as ache, discomfort, tendon ruptures, or disease.

Prolotherapy is a newly developed treatment method that facilitates the stimulation of the body to fix an injured joint. This form of treatment involves injecting the solution accurately into the injured and damaged ligaments and joint capsules.

Viscosupplementation makes use of hyaluronic acid to help substitute synovial fluid lost in the joint parts of the aged person. Ideally, this treatment is well-suited to patients with arthritis problem. By way of safeguarding fibrous, viscosupplementation can help an arthritic patient to resume his/her normal daily functioning.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy is yet another treatment method that takes a concentrated solution of remedy of the individual’s own blood platelets to stimulate the healing power and restoration of cells. These platelets arouse the growth of new cells in a damaged portion.

The OMICS Publishing Group is a scientific publisher and event organizer. OMICS Group is involved in the practice of disseminating scientific knowledge and promoting interaction among professionals and members of the scientific community. OMICS Group rolls out 250 open access scientific journals and organizes around 90 conferences every year at multiple locations in the US.

Metabolic encephalopathy (ME) is a temporary or eternal brain condition that is characterized by the mutilation of body’s body metabolic processes. This occurs when the liver is unable to eliminate toxins from the blood. Metabolic encephalopathy leads to a reduced supply of oxygen and nutritional value to the cells and tissues of the brain. In the severity of cases, the patient could slip into coma and sometimes this coma curtails the life of an individual too.

Symptoms of Metabolic Encephalopathy

ME yields varied symptoms such as:

Insomnia

Confusion

Loss of memory

Stuttering speech

Seizure disorders

Abrupt changes in behavior

Coma

Stiffness in muscles

Risk Factors

Patients who are already affected with liver problems are at increased danger of developing Metabolic Encephalopathy due to a variety of risks such as:

Excessive consumption of liquor and tobacco products

Renal disease

Previous instances of brain stroke

Overdose of medicines such as narcotics and sedatives

Reduced levels of oxygen in the blood

Bleeding in the intestines

Infections

Unrelenting Vomiting or Diarrhea

Diagnosis & Treatment

To be able to determine the patient’s neurological condition, the physician may ask the individual to undergo certain tests, such as blood test and EEG (Electroencephalogram) test and CT scan, MRI scan.

As part of the treatment, the patient may be prescribed with a low-protein diet, low glucose and low salt diet so as to lessen blood ammonia levels. This measure will help in taking away the significant percentage of toxins in the blood vessels in addition to enhancing the health of the kidney, liver organ and the pancreas. In emergency cases such as coma, special tube feedings and life support machines may be used to ensure quick results.

The OMICS Publishing Group thrives on the concept of offering fair access to research-based science articles for avid readers across the globe. OMICS Group has put in place a vast editorial board panel that is a critical extension to the cause of scientific development. All the scholarly work is evaluated by editorial panel in an unbiased and objective manner.

HIV is a life-consuming virus that causes infection to the cells of the human body’s immune system thereby incapacitating the later completely. People with weakened immunization system are prone to develop “opportunistic infection” diseases such as pneumonia, TB, cancer, and skin infections that may gradually lead to loss of life. Avoidance of HIV ailment is the best way of dealing with this problem. Although there is no treatment that can cure HIV/AIDS effectively, still there are certain effectual treatments that can slow down the disease process.

Transmission of HIV

HIV finds its way into the body in several ways via…

Receiving blood of HIV Infected person.

Sharing needles, syringes with someone who is pre affected with AIDS.

Mother-to-baby transmission (when mother breastfeeds her child).

Transmission in health care establishments.

Transmission via blood donation.

HIV Testing:

Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA):

This test is used to identify substances that have antigenic and antibody properties. As part of this test, the patient’s blood is combined with antigen attached to a bead surface. Further, a sample portion of the patient’s blood serum is added and abundant proteins are removed.

Western blot:

This analysis is more challenging task when compared to that of ELISA’s. However, this exercise is taken up to validate the outcomes of two beneficial ELISA assessments.

Polymerase chain reaction (PCR):

This is a quick and inexpensive technique that helps in examining either the RNA of the HIV Virus or the HIV DNA in white blood cells contaminated with the virus. PCR examining is not done as regularly as antibody examination because it needs expertise. This analysis may be done in the days preceding, or even several weeks after coming into contact with the virus. Genetic material may be found even if other assessments are adverse for the virus. The PCR analysis is very useful to find out the extent degree of HIV when antibody results produce inconclusive results.

Process of HIV Testing

The most common form of HIV analyze is blood test wherein a sample of blood is extracted from the body and analyzed.

At some testing centers, saliva assessment test is available. In this test, a sample of saliva is taken using a mouth swab. There is yet another method in which dried blood spot identification is done. During the application of this method, the finger or heel is pricked and the extracted blood is blotted onto filter paper.

OMICS Publishing Group is one of the reputed Open Access Journal Publishers. Currently, it is engaged in the exercise of publishing in excess of 250 online, peer-reviewed scientific journals encompassing a wide range of scientific disciplines. All the journals are subscription-free and can be viewed online by interested readers.

About Carpal tunnel syndrome:

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a general condition that affects the body parts of hand, wrist and in intermittent periods the whole upper extremity. Usually, these emotions create progressively and start off being more intense during the night. They tend to impact the thumbs, index finger, middle finger and half of the ring finger. This article by OMICS Publishing Group covers information about on Carpal tunnel syndrome, its symptoms, causes of this syndrome, diagnostics tests, surgery and recovery time period of patient.

Symptoms of Carpal tunnel syndrome:

Characteristically, this ailment produces early symptoms such as:

Numbness during the night time

Ache in fingers (especially thumb, long and index fingers)

Tingling

Sometimes, the patient may experience a combination of all these three symptoms too.

As the condition worsens, the symptoms tend to surface prominently during the day period, in particular while brushing hair, driving the vehicle and holding the phone or a book, the affected individual may experience abrupt weakness and tend to drop objects.

Causes of Carpal tunnel syndrome

A combination of the below-mentioned factors causes the disease:

Inflammation and swelling in the vicinity of then tendons.

Fluid retention.

Wrist fracture and displacement.

Diabetes

Tumors

Arthritis

Hypothyroidism

Peculiar anatomy

Diagnostic Tests for Carpal tunnel syndrome

The following three tests help in detecting the problem:

Electrical studies (EMG)

X-rays

Wrist Flexion Test

Tinel’s sign

Surgery for Carpal tunnel syndrome

Surgery treatment becomes unavoidable when the patient is not responsive to cortisone injections. Surgical intervention helps in lessening pressure on the nerve by broadening the carpal canal. This is done by way of making an incision (cut) one inch at the base of palm. The surgeon then reduces the structures to decrease pressure on the actual average sensors. The cut in the hand is sutured (sewn) closed.

In the post surgery period, the patient may develop complications such as bleeding, infection and nerve injury.

Recovery Timeline:

The patient may experience discomfort for 2 to 3 days after the operation is over. Sutures are taken off 2 weeks after surgery. Wrist and hand use for regular activities is steadily restored using progressive exercise.

The recovery period tends to vary as it is subject to the patient’s age, general health and seriousness of CTS and the extent of time the symptoms have been visible.

Usually, a large number of patients who undergo the surgery are able to get complete relief from all symptoms. However, residual numbness may persist with some persons who are down with extreme CTS. Though the disease can strike the patient at any point of time still it is highly unusual.

Kidney plays a vital role in the human body. It performs the major role of removing waste from the blood and regulating the water fluid stages. It is not unusual to find people being born with a single kidney as this trend can be noticed in one out of 750 people. Evidently, this problem is more prevalent in males when compared to females. Usually, the left kidney is the one that is absent from the body of an individual. This condition is referred to as Kidney Agenesis.

Single Kidney will develop faster and get bigger than a normally paired kidney. For this reason, the single kidney is bigger and bulkier than regular, and it is, therefore, more susceptible to damage. It is important to be aware of the improved risks for injury with certain huge contact sports, so that cautious decisions may be made regarding taking part in various physical activities.

The three possible reasons of a person with a solitary kidney

Birth defect as during the birth stage itself, the individual has mere one kidney and this condition is termed as renal agenesis.

Removing one kidney to cure cancer or other illness factors, or injuries arising out of accidents. This condition is known as Nephrectomy.

Donating kidneys to the family members or friends whose kidneys got impaired.

The likely effects of a single kidney

People with a single kidney do not face any problems at least in the first few years of time. However, in the long run, there is a greater possibility of patient developing high blood sugar. In the case of children who got rid of their kidneys, may experience the problem of abnormal quantity of proteins present in the urine. Also, there may be some aberration in kidney function 25 years later. However, the lifespan of a single kidney individual is pretty normal.

Diet & Treatment:

A person with this problem is not necessitated to follow any special diet. However, the person has to undergo urine and BP tests at least once in a year. Also, the individual has to check the condition of his/her kidney functioning once in 2 to 3 years.

OMICS Publishing Group’s scientific blog has published different articles regarding new born babies like, “Very Rare Neurological Disorders in Newborn” and “Congenital Heart Disease in Newborns-Treatment” etc… This post provides information about “Eye Problems in New Born Babies”.

Newborn babies are able to adhere to a light with their eyes and turn toward lights. They are very near-sighted at first, and they can concentrate best on things that are within 25 cm (10 inches) of their faces. Their vision enhances over the first three several weeks. So take it easy if your child cannot see the mobile hanging in his crib right away. Soon enough, their capability to focus will enhance and they will see as well as the rest of us.

There are the few things to be concerned, there are:

Uncoordinated eyes:

At the first time the Newborn baby’s eye movement was not be well synchronized. His eye sight may move individually of each other, and this is completely normal. It takes time for newborn baby to understand to use his sight and enhance his eye muscle. The problem should take care of itself by enough time your child is three months old, after that also if the baby has still that problem, make sure to consult a doctor.

Crossed eyes:

Sometimes the additional folds of skin in the inner area of the eyes can make the eyes look crossed. As the child grows, the folds will withdraw and the eyes will look more even. Some babies do have truly crossed sight, which needs to be handled beginning. Ignoring crossed eyes can cause to a situation known as lazy eye, where the kid relies on one eye and the unused eye becomes weaker.

Teary eyes:

Newborn babies do not have the capability to generate tears when they cry. This capability produces toward the end of the first 30 days. Around that time, some newborn babies create a blocked tear duct, which is an obstruction of the pathway that provides tears from the eye to the nasal area. The eye may seem regularly teary, with tears dropping over at periods, even when the child is not weeping. Usually the eye is not red and the eye lid is not swollen.

The information about treatments for newborn eye problems will be covered in upcoming posts by OMICS Publishing Group.

OMICS Group presents scientific literature virtually at free of cost. All the information pertaining to science can be viewed online without any barriers.

At OMICS, the journals are peer-reviewed by eminent professors from varied disciplines. We strive to ensure that research done on ‘Hematology and Blood Disorder’ is genuine and well-informative. Also, OMICS Group has instituted a reward program that gives scientific credits to the noted scientists.

A snapshot on Hematology & Blood Disorder

Hematology is a scientific study that is pertaining to blood and blood-generated tissues. In effect, this branch deals with the functionalities of blood and treatment of blood disorders and malignancies. Lymphoma and Leukemia are some of the conditions that are taken care of by hematologists.

Blood Disorder is a physical order that inhibits the customary functions of blood in the body. Essentially, blood disorders are of two types – Benign and Premalignant. Blood disorder has the potential to harm the liquid portion of blood, namely plasma. Also, the functions of blood are varied in nature and complex too and a majority of blood disorders require clinical intervention.

Blood Disorder – Symptoms, Types & Effects, Treatment

At a regular occurrence, the skin turns into pale or bluish in complexion due to inadequate blood flow. This is nothing but a sure sign of blood disorder. Additionally, individuals with vascular disease will notice that the skin on their feet and legs glows and tends to become significantly thinner.

In many instances, blood disorders are congenital and are borne out of inherited genetic disorders. There are many types of blood disorder viz., Anemia, Diamond Blackfan Anemia and Aplastic Anemia, Fanconi Anemia, Hemoglobin C Disease, Hemoglobin E Trait, Hemolytic Anemia, Iron Deficiency Anemia, Thalassemia, Alpha Thalassemia, Sickle Cell Anemia, Megaloblastic Anemia, Beta Thalassemia, Von Willebrand Disease. Blood disorders are ailments of the blood encompassing white blood cells, red blood cells and platelets, clotting and bleeding disorders and proteins.

In exceptional cases, blood disorder can worsen the condition of a patient thereby destroying the production cells of blood cells leading to blood cancer.

Usually, the treatment for the blood disorder is focused on managing the symptoms to make the patient feel at ease and help her or him lead a normal comfortable life. Though diseases like blood clotting cannot be controlled still there is a room to regulate this disease.

Hematology – Different kinds of Tests

There are different Hematology tests that are also called blood tests. A doctor may ask the patient to undergo blood tests so as to validate a suspect medical diagnosis. As part of the blood tests, CBC (complete blood count) is used to assess different components of the blood, including hematocrit levels and blood cells – white cells & red cells, and platelets. The outcome of this blood test facilitates in diagnosing medical conditions such as the bleeding disorder and anemia.

Lipoprotein Panel is one of the most commonly applied Hematology tests. As part of this test, triglyceride and cholesterol levels are measured in the blood.

Complications arising out of bleeding and clotting factors can be checked if the conditions are instantly identified and treated.
