Biography

Dr. Ioannis T. Karapanagiotidis obtained his 5-year Bachelor’s degree (Ptychio) from the Department of Animal Production, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece) and holds a degree of M.Sc. in Aquaculture from the Institute of Aquaculture, University of Stirling (Scotland). His Ph.D. thesis was in fish nutrition and was carried out at the University of Stirling and at the Asian Institute of Technology (Thailand). Particularly he examined the polyunsaturated fatty acid content and metabolism of wild and farmed tilapias in Thailand and its aquaculture practices and implications for human nutrition. He was awarded two scholarships by the Hellenic Republic State Scholarships Foundation (I.K.Y.) and by the European Commission (DCI/B-EC). Currently he is a faculty member at the Department of Ichthyology and Aquatic Environment, University of Thessaly (Greece) as Lecturer in Aquatic Animal Nutrition. His research focuses on nutrition and feeding of fish, crustaceans and molluscs, nutritional physiology of aquatic animals especially on fatty acid metabolism, aquafeed technology, nutritional value of aquatic animals and aquaculture.
