Biography

I graduated as a Medical Doctor in 1993 and as a Clinical Neurophysiologist in 1997. My initial research work focused on electrophysiological, psychophysiological, social and cognitive aspects of dementia. From 1997 until 2005 I worked at the Cuban Neuroscience Centre and at different University Hospitals in Cuba and in Colombia. In 2005 I was awarded a scholarship by the European Program ALBAN to undertake a PhD at the University of Edinburgh. The aim was to develop tools for the early detection of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). After completing my PhD in 2009, the Neuroscience Program of the San Paolo Foundation awarded me a 2-year fellowship to further my studies developing cognitive tools for the early detection of AD. In 2012 Alzheimer’s Society awarded me a 3-year fellowship to help me turn these novel methodologies into clinical tools. I currently work collaboratively with a network of groups around the world.
