Biography

Dr. Tiziana Cappello is currently doing a second PhD at the University of Messina, Italy. She achieved her first PhD and the mention of Doctor Europaeus in 2013 at the University of Messina, Italy, with a doctoral thesis on the use of environmental metabolomics in ecotoxicology, her M.Sc. degree in 2008 and B.Sc. degree in 2006, both at the University of Messina with specialization on topics relative to biology and ecology of the coastal marine environments. Her research is mainly focused on ecotoxicology and biomonitoring of aquatic environments, by using both invertebrates and lower vertebrates as bioindicators. She is focusing on the application of protonic Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (1H NMR)-based metabolomics, a cutting edge approach useful to assessing the health status of organisms, in combination with chemometrics and conventional tools, i.e. histology, immunohistochemistry, molecular and enzymatic approaches, to gain novel and more complete insights into biota defence mechanisms under stress conditions. Moreover, Dr. Tiziana Cappello serves as Reviewer for a number of prestigious international journals.
