Whirlpools are common on the downstream sides of rocks in rivers and at the bottom of waterfalls. They are formed also when currents moving in opposite directions sideswipe each other. Sometimes they occur when wind opposes a current. A whirlpool is formed also when water drains through a small hole, such as the drain of a wash basin. They can also occur in the middle of the ocean when one current meets an opposing current, as when an incoming tide hits the ebb current of the last tide. Strong winds can also whip up the water into whirlpools. Peer review refers to the work done during the screening of submitted manuscripts and funding applications. This process encourages authors to meet the accepted standards of their discipline and reduces the dissemination of irrelevant findings, unwarranted claims, unacceptable interpretations, and personal views. Publications that have not undergone peer review are likely to be regarded with suspicion by academic scholars and professionals. Journal of Vortex Science and Technology an iconic Open access peer reviewed journal in the study of physics behind whirlpool. All published articles are permanently archived and available at OMICS Group website in HTML, Digital, Audio and PDF formats. The articles published in this journal are indexed in Media Finder, Journal Seek and Google Scholar. Open Access should be seen as a means of accelerating scientific discovery by providing free and unrestricted access of scientific knowledge via the Internet.
