Biography

As Chairman and CEO, Michael Kennedy, Sr. has been setting the standard for KAI’s design and construction for over 30 years. Michael began the firm in 1980 with a mission to stay true to the company’s core values. These values and the drive to be the best at the design and build collaboration are the cornerstone of the firm. Michael ensures that his faith and its values carry through both personally and professionally. In 2010 KAI was named “Top 100 African American Owned Business in America” by diversitybusiness.com. Among his achievements, Michael was named Most Influential Minority Business Leader by the St. Louis Business Journal in 2008, and MBE Contractor of the year by MOKAN that same year. With a passion for the entire development to construction process, Michael guides the firm, its employees, and our clients to improve the way we interact in our communities. Michael’s involvement in the community goes beyond his involvement with the firm. Michael has served on the Board of Directors for Forest Park Hospital, is active in the American Red Cross and is a member of the Missouri Minority Advocacy Commission. These values transcend generations, as Michael passed the torch to his son, Michael Kennedy, Jr., who was named President of KAI in 2008. Affectionately known around the office as Senior and Junior, Michael cherishes the time he gets to spend with his son, and says “there is no greater blessing than to enjoy working with your child on a daily basis.”
