Compassion Fatigue

Compassion fatigue also called vicarious traumatization or secondary traumatization. The emotional residue or strain of exposure to working with those suffering from the consequences of traumatic events suffers from Compassion fatigue. It differs from burn-out, but can co-exist. Compassion fatigue can occur due to exposure on one case or can be due to a cumulative level of trauma. Researchers have discovered that helpers, when they are overtaxed by the nature of their work, begin to show symptoms of Compassion fatigue that are very similar to their traumatized clients: difficulty concentrating, intrusive imagery, feeling discouraged about the world, hopelessness, exhaustion, irritability, high attrition and negative outcomes (dispirited) many of which affect the workplace and can create a toxic work environment. International Journal of Emergency Mental Health and Human Resilience is one of the top open access journals in Compassion fatigue. The journal provides the quality articles serving as the major source of knowledge for young and aspiring generations who are keen in pursuing a career in medical sciences. The journal is an Open Access publication model of OMICS Group, which enables the dissemination of research articles to the global community free of cost.
