Biography

Håkan Engqvist compled his Ph.d from Uppsala University in 2000. Presently, he is the Professor and Chair in Applied Materials Science at Uppsala University, Sweden since 2009.
His research interests are in the connection between synthesis, microstructure and properties of nanobioceramic materials for hard tissue repair and novel methods for drug delivery. After receiving his Ph. D. at Uppsala University he worked for the industry for seven years before he joined Uppsala University again.
The industrial experience spans over different positions within R&D of hard materials and bioceramics as well as strategic partnerships between industry and academia. He has authored over 90 research papers and conference contributions and holds over 35 patents. He has founded two companies and has been part of several deals including licensing and acquiring of IPR. He is heavily involved in the set-up of the knowledge and innovation community InnoEnergy, representing Uppsala University in the steering board for the Swedish node.

He has supervised more than 41 postdoctoral researchers, Ph.D. and master students. He is the President of the Scandinavian Society of Biomaterials Society and chairman of the board. He is also the founder and member of the board of Bactinact AB, Oss board member in several academic and industrial positions. He has received awards from Alde Nilssons ABB Foundation (1999): Scholarship for scientific research and development in production technique, Commended in EPMA Powder Metallurgy Thesis Competition (2000), and Göran Gustafsson Award (2005) for Young Researchers, Million price winner at Uppsala University.

Research Interest

R&D of bioceramics for dental and orthopaedic applications, implantable biomaterials and drug delivery vehicles mainly for bone replacement.
