Biography

Jeremy Dunning is a Professor of Geophysics and Dean Emeritus at Indiana University, having served as Dean of Continuing Studies at IU from 1993-2003. Dunning was one of the early adopters of technology in education in the mid 1980’s. He was coauthor of the first interactive textbook, the award winning In Terra Active. He has won a number of awards for his work in this arena including the 2006 Ernest Boyer Award. This award “honors each year one of the worlds highly creative men and women who have contributed significantly to teaching, learning and technology in higher education.” Dunning has previously won the 2006 Innovative Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Technology from Teach-Learn.org for his G-116 course, the Alfred Sloan Foundation Sloan-C Best Practices Award (2003), the ACHE Novel Use of Technology Award (2004), the ICI Gold Medal (2003), the 1996 UCEA Distinguished Course Award (an annual best course award in distance education), an Indiana University Board of Trustees Distinguished Teaching Award, and four best paper awards. Dunning was the 1996 Distinguished Fellow at the Agency for Instructional Technology, and was the 1986 Hearst Distinguished Lecturer at the University of California at Berkeley. He has served as a consultant, in educational technology, to more than 40 universities, three ministries of education, and most of the major publishing houses, in addition to testifying before Congress. He has served as a consultant peer reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission since 1994. He has published three books, eight CDROM or E-textbooks, and over 120 papers.
