Biography

Dr. Rocky Ward received his doctorate in biology from the University of North Texas. He spent four years on the faculty of Bethel College, a Presbyterian institution in McKenzie Tenn., before returning to Texas as the head of the Conservation Genetics Laboratory of the Coastal Fisheries Division of Texas Parks & Wildlife Department. During the 12 years he spent at TPWD, he researched genetic population structure in a variety of organisms ranging from seagrasses to sharks. Dr. Ward left TPWD in 2003 to head the conservation genetics lab at the United States Geological Survey's Northern Appalachian Research Laboratory in Wellsboro, Pa. At the USGS, he worked on a variety of species including mussels, hellbenders, Great Lakes fishes, and whale sharks. Dr. Ward returned to Texas in the Spring of 2008 to join the faculty at WTAMU.

Conservation genetics; Interspecies hybridization in deer; Landscape genetics of bobcats, Effects of population bottlenecks on genetic resources of Texas horned-lizards and World-wide genetic structuring of tarpon; Tilapia aquaculture.
