Horseshoe Vortex

The horseshoe vortex system is a simple vortex model for an aircraft or lifting body which fits a box-shaped vortex system out from the wing. This is made up of the wing vortex, trailing vortices and starting vortex. The latter is a vortex formed due to changes in the vorticity of the wing vortex, i.e. due to changes in airspeed. The horseshoe vortex system resulting from the interaction between a laminar boundary layer and a round transverse jet was studied over a range of Reynolds numbers and velocity ratios using hydrogen bubble wire visualization in a water channel. The study shows that the horseshoe vortex system can be steady, oscillating, or coalescing, depending on the flow conditions. The top journals are peer reviewed scholarly journals of green chemistry.
